The South Mountain Fair offers a great weekend of fun and entertainment for the whole family. The Fair takes place annually at the Mountain Township Agricultural Hall in North Grenville. Established in 1892, the Fair celebrated its 125th anniversary back in 2017.
Come to the South Mountain Fair this summer and enjoy a parade, music and entertainment, specialty foods, unique crafts, agriculture shows, the demolition derby and much, much more! If you’re in the neighbourhood in August, the Fair is something you don’t want to miss.
Must-See South Mountain Fair Exhibits
The Baby Contest
The contest is divided into 3 age groups – newborn, infant, and toddler. Categories include biggest eyes, smallest toes, and a family member look-a-like competition! In the past, registration fees for the event have been donated the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. It’s a contest full of fun and helps a good cause!
The Poultry Barn and Contest
Come visit the poultry barn and see show stopping birds all competing for the grand prize! In the past over 500 birds have been entered in competition with 70 classes represented. A previous winner was a Black Cochin Rooster.
Horse Shows
The South Mountain Fair offers two horse shows. The first, the Saddle & Harness Show, includes the Miniature Horse Show and the Heavy Horse show and competitively judges the classes of horses. The second show is the Children’s Fun Pony & Horse Show, designed to offer children aged 6 to 15 a great time laughing and playing with the ponies.
Homecrafts Competition
Stop by the Exhibit Hall, open throughout the weekend, and see and appreciate the crafty talent of the entries. There’s a lot to see and many categories, both for adults and Junior Homecrafts.
Carnival Rides and Games
Past years have included carnival concessions, games, and rides for all ages, operated by Carter Shows. Some of the more popular rides were the bumper cars, merry-go-round, Ferris wheel, and the swinging, rocking, and dizzying Area 51 ride.
Children’s Entertainment Tent
The South Mountain Fair has activities for the whole family! Kids will be delighted by the children’s tent, stuffed with activities, like colouring, face painting, a comedic magic show, and a nearby petting zoo and pet show.
Hand Milking Contest
If you dare to participate in this fast-paced contest, you’ll be randomly assigned a cow and a challenge: contestants have just 1 minute to get as much milk as possible in their pails. When the time is up, the pails are weighed. A past contestant one 1st prize with 4 pounds of milk!
Other Memorable South Mountain Fair Activities
Any brave youngster is welcome to compete in the Mutton Bustin challenge. Visitors can take on the Escape Room and attempt a daring escape within the time limit. You can also admire the stunning Sunflower Patch. The Demolition Derby and the Truck and Tractor Pull are other confirmed highlights of the weekend.

Try one of Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary Campground’s 69 campsites. This campground is a nature lover’s dream. You’ll have easy access to 8 kilometers of self-guided hiking trails with abundant plant life, wildlife, and over 150 bird species in the area.
Or try the Riverside-Cedar Campground, the largest campground out of the 8 Parks of the St. Lawrence campgrounds. With 301 campsites and five cabins, this campground is conveniently located on shores of the St. Lawrence River near Upper Canada Village and Crysler Farm Battlefield.
